Pharmacological effect
Target: Hypothalamic MC4R receptor, a natural α-MSH (α -melanocyte-stimulating hormone) analogue, has a much higher affinity than endogenous α-MSH. MC4R is a core pathway for energy balance and appetite regulation in the human body.
When genetic defects (POMC/PCSK1 / LEPR deficiency, Bardet-BiedL syndrome, acquired hypothalamic obesity) occur, the MC4R pathway signal in the hypothalamus is insufficient, leading to pathological hyperphagia and early-onset severe obesity in patients.
3. Setmelanotide activates MC4R, restores hypothalamic appetite regulation signals, significantly reduces hunger, decreases food intake, and achieves weight loss. At the same time, increase energy consumption. It can pass through the blood-brain barrier and act on the central nervous system.
⚠️ is not used for common obesity (such as simple obesity caused by diet), but is limited to rare obesity related to specific genes/hypothalamic damage Rhythm Pha...
